Derby Open

Matt Miller and Sweet Lil Amanda rose to the top of 26 competitive horse-and-rider teams in the Derby Open finals to capture the Championship with a sweet 225.

As a reward for their standout performance, Miller, of Poolville, Texas, and Sweet Lil Amanda (High Brow CD x Amanda Stargun x Playgun) picked up a check worth $11,500 for owners Chris and Tracy Brengard, of Paragould, Arkansas.

The win adds to the duo’s many accolades this year, including the Ike Derby Open and the Cattlemen’s Derby Open Championships. Miller and the 2011 mare, bred by Sunrise Ranch LLC, of Fayetteville, Arkansas, have already picked up almost $130,000 together, according to Equi-Stat.

Missing the championship by 1 point, James Payne and DMAC Spicy Spoon (Hes A Peptospoonful x DMAC Kats Meow x Young Gun) marked a 224 to earn the Reserve title and a $10,000 paycheck for owner Kathleen Moore, of Madill, Oklahoma.
