Extra Paint Awards At The International

ColonelsSplashyGun AHonstetterRegistered Paint Horses will be eligible for additional awards at The International in Colorado this year. The American Paint Horse Association (APHA) is offering exclusive reining awards for Paint Horses at The International, a reining event scheduled for Sept. 23–27 in Denver. The new partnership between APHA and The International features new opportunities for reining Paints. Custom Gist trophy buckles will be awarded to the highest-placing registered Paint Horses in an assortment of classes, including: Youth Freestyle National Championship; Futurity Open; Futurity Non-Pro; Mile High Derby & Maturity Open; and Loot For Grassroots Amateur.

“We at HorsePower Inc., producers of The International, are excited to partner with APHA to bring beautiful Gist Silversmith buckles to a number of our classes and feature the American Paint Horse,” said President Brad Ettleman. “Like APHA, The International has a specific goal of bringing progressive ideas to the equestrian industry, and the event endeavors to touch all levels of competitors from youth and rookies to the industry’s most elite.”

Following the 2014 buzz around creating high-point awards exclusively for registered Paint Horses at Western performance events, the APHA decided to expand the opportunities for reining Paints at additional premier events.

“Paints are consistently among the top performers in reining competitions, and these Paint-specific awards are a great opportunity to showcase their accomplishments while giving owners and exhibitors another reason to become part of the APHA family,” said APHA Director of Business Development Kalyn Sanders.

Exhibitors or owners who still need to register their Paints with the APHA can save $15 by doing so with the association’s online registration program. Paints age 1 and older can be registered for $100 for the Regular Registry or $50 for the Solid Paint-Bred Registry. Cropout Paints at least 1 year old are eligible for registration for a fee of $150.

For assistance with registration, call the APHA’s MemberCare team at 817-222-6423. Owners who opt to submit registration paperwork by mail should write THE INTERNATIONAL-REINING on the front of the envelope to receive complimentary rush processing.
