Reward Offered For Information About Horse Abusers At Reining By The Bay

sg-frozen-enterprizeSG Frozen Enterprize and Andrea FappaniA $20,000 reward has been posted for information leading to the arrest of the person, or persons, involved with the alleged tampering and abuse of three horses shown by Equi-Stat Elite $4 Million Rider Andrea Fappani during Reining By The Bay at The Horse Park at Woodside in Woodside, Calif.

According to Michael Miola, of Silver Spurs Equine, which owns SG Frozen Enterprize, the trouble started July 25 when Fappani showed “Iceman” in the Derby. The horse marked a 220, tying for sixth.

“I was a little disappointed because my first horse that I showed tonight, he’s really a special horse for me,” Fappani told Quarter Horse News after winning the Derby on Mr Electric Spark. “[Iceman] acted a little sick right before I got on him and I wasn’t sure if I was going to show him or not. When I walked in the pen, the first stride I knew he wasn’t there. He’s been running a little bit of a temperature and we’ve been pumping fluids into him the last few hours and he just wasn’t there. He’s a horse that always gives me 100 percent and tonight, it was just one of those days that wasn’t his day.”

Dr. John Newcomb, Fappani’s farm vet who accompanies him to most shows, began treating Iceman for colic.

“We thought he just colicked and he was sick when he was showing and that was the end of it,” Miola said.

The next morning, Miola woke up to a text message from Fappani stating he believed Iceman had been poisoned. Miola said toxicology screens had shown a “foreign substance” in the stallion’s system, but as of Sunday evening, they could not pinpoint what that substance was.

Two other horses shown by Fappani were also allegedly tampered with. Reining By The Bay Futurity winner, Thebettertohearuwith, owned by Bill Coburn, of Sherman Oaks, Calif., was found with a loop nail in his hoof. The nail was removed and the hoof treated before the horses were shipped home on Sunday.
