Platinum Vintage & Bergen Earn NRHA Derby Level 4 Open Championship

 

Tying for the Reserve title with a score of 223 was Justin Mathison (Tioga, Texas, $600,412 NRHA lifetime earnings) aboard Snap Dun The Bases (Master Snapper x Shes Dun The Bases) and Andrea Fappani aboard Pinesail Jac (Tinseljac x Sailin Lil Ruf). Both riders took home a $37,545.08 check and each nominator receives $1,976.06. Snap Dun The Bases, a 2009 stallion with $78,486 NRHA lifetime earnings, is owned and nominated by Lewisville Development, LP, and Pinesail Jac is a 2011 stallion with $53,166 NRHA lifetime earnings, owned and nominated by Raul Leal.

Level 3 Open

Duane Latimer was the Level 3 Champion and 8th in the Level 4 with a score of 220.5 aboard Taking A Rest (Smart Spook x Plenty Of Rest), taking home a $30,557.64 check with $1,608.30 going to the nominator, Wagman Ranch Inc. who is also the owner from Talala, Oklahoma.

Level 2 Open

The Level 2 Open Champion and Level 3 Reserve Champion went to Riccardo Nicolazzi aboard Gunnin For Stars (Colonels Smoking Gun [Gunner] x Dun It In Starlight) with a score of 217.5. Nicolazzi took home a $26,653.95 check with $1,402.84 going to the nominator, Northern Meadows. Gunnin For Stars is owned by Rancho Oso Rio of Woodside, California.

Level 1 Open

Aces High Whiz and Emily Emerson took top honors in the Level 1 Open winning $4,750.18 with a score of 214.5. Aces High Whiz is a 2010 gelding by Topsail Whiz and out of Seven S Belle Star, owned by Michelle Kuck of Rifle, Colorado. The nominator, Bob Loomis, took home a nominator check of $250.01.

Prime Time Open

The Prime Time Open Champion was Patti Brownshadel aboard Magnetised, a 2011 stallion by Im The Chic Magnet and out of Gee Golly Whiz. Brownshadel is the nominator and owner of Magnetised and took home a $2,257 check.

2015 NRHA Derby: Week in Review

The 2015 NRHA Derby was a tremendous success and plenty of fun for everyone in Oklahoma City. The week included craft projects for Father’s Day, youth art and speech contests, American Paint Horse Association and American Quarter Horse Association classes, an ancillary competition, and plenty of social activities that wrapped up with outstanding Non-Pro and Open competition. Viewers from home had a special treat with live commentary during the Level 4 Non-Pro and Level 4 Open competition, and plenty of prizes were given away from the NRHA Zone.

NRHA now sets its eyes on November 27 when the 50th Running of the NRHA Futurity kicks off again in Oklahoma City. Make plans now to be a part of this very special event, and come watch some of the most athletic and talented horses and riders in the world compete for more than $2 million in cash and prizes!
