Cashin Malibus Chex & Dean Brown Win Big In North Carolina

This show offered Nationa Reining Horse Association (NRHA)-sanctioned ancillary slates, as well as two high-dollar derbies for 4-, 5- and 6-year-old reining horses.

Dean Brown, riding Cashin Malibus Chex for Bob Santagata, of Campbell Hall, New York, won the Level 4 Open division in both the Carolina Classic and Atlantic Breeders Incentive (ABI) derbies. Brown guided Cashin Malibus Chex (Too Busy Cashin Chex x Malibu Whiz x Topsail Whiz) to a score of 227. They earned $12,124 for their dynamic run.

Wimpys Little Freckl (Wimpys Little Step x Ritas San Jo x San Jo Freckles), ridden by Peter DeFreitas for Monica Watson’s Double Run Farm, of Leland, North Carolina, scored a 225.5. They were Reserve Champions in the $17,500-added Carolina Classic Derby Level 4 Open and the $8,000-added ABI Derby Level 4 Open. They added a total of $9,562 to their résumés.

There were co-champions in the $12,500-added Carolina Classic Derby Level 3 Open. The Chics Dig It (Smart Chic Olena x This Chex On Top x Topsail Whiz), ridden by Dany Pelletier for Nancy Eggers, of Fort Salonga, New York, and Lil Dreamin Magnum (Magnum Chic Dream x Myo Starlight x Paddys Irish Whiskey), ridden by Jeremy Gates for Kathy Biesecker, of Honeoye Falls, New York, both scored a 220.5. Gates also won the $5,000-added ABI Level 3 Championship. Pelletier also won the $2,000-added Carolina Classic Level 2 Open division.

Nick Valentine rode Lil Ruf Sparkle (Jacs Electric Spark x Lil Ruf Barbie x Lil Ruf Peppy) to a 213 to win the $2,000-added ABI Derby Level 2 Open division for Steve Rouse, of New Bern, North Carolina.

Non-Pro

The Carolina Classic $12,500-added Derby Level 4 Non-Pro and $2,500-added Derby Prime Time divisions were won by Lisa Bissell riding Double My Chics (Dreamn Bout Chics x Double My Quixote x Double R Doc). They scored a 223 and earned a total of $6,749. Double My Chics is owned by Jamie Bissell, of Fort Valley, Georgia.

With a score of 219.5, Lyndsey Jordan, of Georgetown, Kentucky, was second in the Classic Level 4 Non-Pro on her Made By Magnum (Magnum Chic Dream x Ready Make Cowboy x Master Cowboy Jac). This team also won the $6,000-added Classic Level 3 Non-Pro Championship.

Paige Vernon rode Spooks For The Chics (Smart Spook x Chic In The Bar x Smart Chic Olena) for White River Ag Products, of Ashland, Wisconsin, to a score of 218 to win the $4,000-added Classic Level 2 Non-Pro division.

Carin Valcich, of Whitesboro, Texas, riding her Wimpys All Jacked Up (Wimpys Little Step x Docs Twinkie Jac x Docs Showtime), scored a 218.5 to win the $4,000-added ABI Level 4 Non-Pro and $2,149.

With a score of 214.5, David McGee and Chic Out My Bling (Chicoutmyblingbling x Miss Brim Star x Smart Starbuck), owned by McGee Farms, of King, North Carolina, won the $2,500-added ABI Derby Level 3 division.

George Bell, of Raleigh, North Carolina, piloted Couture Tag (Whiz N Tag Chex x Kachina Oak Olena x Smart Chic Olena), owned by Bell and his wife, Carol Bell, to a 213.5 for the $2,000-added ABI Level 2 Non-Pro win.
