The Classic Limited Non-Pro finals, held Sunday, April 5, was full of excitement when a review moved champions Sheridan Clark and Meradas Puddy Cat to an even bigger win.
Clark, of Weatherford, Texas, drew third-from-last in the 21-horse Classic Limited Non-Pro finals on her 5-year-old mare (Athena Puddy Cat x Meradas Beauty Bars x Freckles Merada). The duo was going for their own NCHA Triple Crown – they had already won the 2013 NCHA Futurity Limited Non-Pro and 2014 NCHA Summer Spectacular Derby Limited Non-Pro. The Super Stakes was the last of the Fort Worth events for the horse-and-rider team to conquer.
After marking a 222.5, 15-year-old Clark, who is the daughter of Equi-Stat Elite $2 Million Rider Jason Clark, was swarmed by her friends to celebrate. Then announcer Tom Holt called out that the judges had reviewed Clark’s run. Her score was then adjusted up to a 225!
The Classic Limited Non-Pro Championship, which was won by a 6-point margin, paid $8,280 to the young cutter and her mare, who was bred by John and Sierra Ayres, of Wynnewood, Oklahoma. This win pushes Clark’s Equi-Stat record past the $80,000 mark, while “Cali” now boasts more than $65,000 in lifetime earnings.
The Classic Limited Non-Pro Reserve Championship went to Blakley Colgrove, of Boligee, Alabama, and Vespaa (CD Olena x My Scooters Smokin x Smart Lil Scoot), bred by Bar H Ranch, of Moscow, Tennessee. The 6-year-old gelding and his owner garnered $7,952 for their 219 from the second draw.
