SG Frozen Enterprize Named Cactus Classic Derby Open Champion

There was a full slate of classes, including American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) World Show qualifying classes.

It was SG Frozen Enterprize (Frozen Sailor x RS Rose SJ x SJ Enterprise) and Andrea Fappani who took the Derby Level 4 Open Championship with a score of 229.5, winning $12, 958. The stallion and Fappani recently won the AQHA World Show in the Junior Reining.

SG Frozen Enterprize is owned by Silver Spurs Equine LLC, of Scottsdale, Arizona, and was bred by Marco Franchini, of Seveso, Italy. Fappani, who is also from Scottsdale, tied for Reserve on Woodside, California-based Rancho Oso Rio LLC’s mare Electric Genes (Jacs Electric Spark x Taris Designer Genes x Mr Boomerjac) with a score of 224.5.

Fappani shared his Reserve Championship with Todd Sommers, of Whitesboro, Texas, and Chexolution, who is by Einsteins Revolution and out of the Nu Chex To Cash mare Gold Chex To Cash. The stallion belongs to Stephany Monteleone, of Metairie, Louisiana, and was bred by Vision Quest Reiners LLC, of Santa Clarita, California.

Fappani and Sommers each earned $6,902 for their Co-Reserve titles.

Level 3 Open

The Magnum Chic Dream mare Ms Dreamy, who is out of the Colonels Smoking Gun [Gunner] mare A Gal With A Gun, won the Level 3 Open with Dan Huss, of Scottsdale, Arizona, aboard. The team’s score was a 222.5, earning them $5,072. Ms Dreamy is owned by Melissa and Bob Shearer, of Bonita Springs, Florida, and was bred by Jana Simons, of Aubrey, Texas.

Right behind them with a 222 was Stony Plain, Alberta, Canada, resident Geri Zimmel’s Shine On Commander, who is by Commanders Nic and out of the Tejons Peppy Doc mare Shine On Tejon. Shine On Commader, who was bred by Ginger and Craig Schmersal, of Overbrook, Oklahoma, was ridden by Austin Seelhof, of Cochrane, Canada. The duo won $3,088.

Level 2 Open

Designed With Shine won the Level 2 Open with Riccardo Nicolazzi, of Grass Valley, California. Rancho Oso Rio LLC-bred Designed With Shine (Smart And Shiney x Taris Designer Genes x Mr Boomerjac) is owned by Julie Ridgeway, of Loomis, California. The team won $3,349 for their score of 218.

Level 1 Open

Ruf Electrical Whiz (Jacs Electric Spark x Bonitas Latin Chic x Lil Ruf Peppy) and Cheyenne Leon, of Mayfield, Kentucky, won the Level 1 Open with their score of 217. The duo also won the Level 2 Open Reserve Championship. They brought home a paycheck totaling $4,093.

Ruf Electrical Whiz is owned by Jody Puno, of Santee, California, and was bred by Cheryl Hadrych, of Washington, Texas.

Level 4 Non-Pro

The Derby Non-Pro competition was tough, but in the end, it was young Cade McCutcheon who took home first place aboard Vintage Crome (A Sparkling Vintage x Smart Custom Chrome x Custom Crome). The mare is owned by McCutcheon’s parents, Tom and Mandy McCutcheon, of Aubrey, Texas, and was bred by Petra Zeitler Conner, also of Aubrey, Texas. The duo won $6,006 for their score of 221.5, which beat the reserve score by 3.5 points.

There was a three-way tie for the Reserve Championship, which was earned with a score of 218. Each contestant earned $2,916. The first was Jessica Sternberg, who was riding Rosanne Sternberg’s homebred Spook N Sparkle (Smart Spook x Setting Off Sparks x Shining Spark). Sternberg is from Aubrey, Texas. The second was Harper Conner, riding Petra Zeitler Conner’s mare Jacs Princess, who is by Jac O Rima and out of the Dry Doc Alejos mare RS Monita Dry Doc. She was bred by Dennis Schulz, of Neustadt, Austria.

Sternberg and Spook N Sparkle also tied with Conner and Jacs Princess for the Levels 3 and 2 Non-Pro Championships. They each received another $3,300 for the Level 3 win and $2,375 for the Level 2 Co-Championship.

The third in the tie for Reserve in the Level 4 Non-Pro was Annie Reynolds, of King Hill, Idaho, riding Magicality, a Joyce Pearson homebred. Magicality is by Very Smart Remedy and out of the Little Lenas Legend mare Magical Lena. Reynolds also won the Prime Time Non-Pro with Magicality, earning them another paycheck for $2,001.

Level 1 Non-Pro

Sally Berg, of Lafayette, Colorado, tied for the Level 1 Non-Pro Championship riding Verlander (Wimpys Little Step x Melodys GI Jane x Missin James). The horse is owned by Barn 66, LLC, also of Lafayette, and was bred by Peter Phinny, of Glen Arbor, Michigan. Chandler Winard, of Scottsdale, Arizona, was Berg’s Co-Champion, riding his gelding Tags Golden Star (Whiz N Tag Chex x Boogies Smart Star x Smart Starbuck), who was bred by Lyle Visser, of Whitesboro, Texas.

Each team scored a 215.5 and earned a paycheck of $1,892.
