Dell Hendricks Introduces Spin It Back Program

starlights-wranglerStarlights Wrangler and Dell HendricksFormer National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) President and long-time member of the NRHA Executive Committee and Board of Directors Dell Hendricks introduced his new Spin It Back program in early March. The program, which begins during the 2015 breeding season, will benefit NRHA Affiliate Associations.

For the highly successful Million Dollar Rider, Spin It Back is a way to support a tremendous group of grass-roots reiners. Hendricks said, “I have learned that the growth of reining has to start with the local affiliates, all the way up to the national and international levels. During my time on the NRHA Board, I worked to support the affiliate program and now wish to continue to do so in my own business.”

Knowing that donations and sponsorships help fund local affiliates, he began to think of ways to help the over 60 North American and nearly 30 international affiliates, and came up with the Spin It Back Program. He noted, “I want to grow my breeding program, but I also want to give something back to the affiliates that are the lifeblood of our industry.”

Dell Hendricks Reining Horses has been standing Starlights Wrangler (Grays Starlight x Wranglers Connie x Docs Wrangler). He was the 2002 National Reining Breeders Classic (NRBC) Open Champion and a 2003 USET Silver Medalist with lifetime earnings of more than $128,000. He is currently approaching Million Dollar Sire status, with his offspring having earned more than $937,000.

Hendricks has just purchased Hang Ten Surprize (Hangten Peppy Mizzen Topsail x Topsail Whiz) whose get have won more than $406,000. Hang Ten earned in excess of $133,000 and was an American Quarter Horse Association Junior Reining World Champion, a World Equestrian Games Individual Gold Medal winner and Team Canada Silver Medalist. Plus he was a multiple finalist at the NRHA Futurity, NRHA Derby and NRBC.

Hendricks said, “My mission in raising horses has always been to raise great-minded, pretty, well-balanced horses that can be versatile in reining and other disciplines. Hang Ten Surprize fits all of these requirements, but I have a close, personal connection to his bloodlines that made purchasing him an easy decision.  His sire, Hangten Peppy, was a successful show horse and a true competitor, and one of the most athletic horses I have ever ridden. He was becoming a super sire when a fatal injury took him from us. I think Hang Ten Surprize is one of his best sons, and I am excited to continue this bloodline through my breeding program.”

So how does Spin It Back work? When any member of an affiliate association purchases a full-paid breeding to either of these stallions, Hendricks will Spin It Back by making a $250 donation to the association. The process is simple, and just by designating the beneficiary association on the breeding form a member can secure that $250 payment.

Hendricks has been involved with horses his entire life and began riding reining horses in 1990. In 2005, he became the sixth person in the history of the National Reining Horse Association to earn over $1 million in the show pen. He now has NRHA Lifetime Earnings in excess of $1,6 million. Hendricks, his wife, Terri, and their son, Jimmy, run a first-class breeding and training operation in Tioga, Texas.
