Fehrman & Athenamillionaire Earn 4-Year-Old Amateur Championship At The Ike

KFehrmanEditedKatie FehrmanAt The Ike Derby and Classic, held Jan. 31-Feb. 7 in West Monroe, Louisiana, Amateur competitors were enjoying the weather on the last day of competition. But, it was Katie Fehrman and Athenamillionaire who took home the 4-Year-Old Amateur Championship.

Fehrman piloted Athenamillionaire (Athena Puddy Cat x Brothersamillionaire x San Tule Freckles) to a 215.5 in the five-horse finals to earn the championship along with a $2,109 paycheck.

“I’m beyond excited for this win,” said 15-year-old Fehrman. “I’ve had her for a few months and I absolutely love her. She’s just so solid and she takes care of me, she’s a star. We just really click and I love her.

“We just wanted to go down there and be clean. It’s the last day and we just wanted to finish on a good note and she’s been shown quite a bit,” Fehrman continued. “So that was just our goal to be clean, do the best we can, drive up and it just all fell into place. It worked today.”

Jerry Yelverton piloted Sancho Cat to the 4-Year-Old Amateur Reserve Championship and the Senior Amateur Championship after marking a 213. The duo was the first draw in the finals and earned a total of $2,714 for their win.

5/6-Year-Old Amateur

ASuttenEditedAndrea SuttenAndrea Sutten has had her eyes set on Compact Style (CD Lights x Moms Stylish Pepto x Peptoboonsmal) for quite sometime and when the opportunity presented itself for her and her husband, Von, to buy him, she didn’t think twice. Making a great debut at The Ike, the duo marked a 218 in the 5/6-Year-Old Amateur and earned the Championship and a $2,340 paycheck.

“It feels really good! It’s my first aged event championship so it is really special and I am very excited. [Compact Style] is new to us and this is the first show I’ve shown him at but we’ve been trying to buy him since the Brazos Bash last year,” said Sutten of Fort Worth, Texas. “It’s my last year in the Amateur and I wanted a really solid horse that I could just go show and have fun and that I knew would help me. Finally his owner agreed to sell him and we didn’t hesitate to buy him!

“The run started out good and my second cow was good, but on my third cow I got a little nervous because I felt like things were going OK and I didn’t want to screw it up, and I thought that I almost did but everything worked out okay in the end. [Compact Style] did everything that we knew he could do.”

The 5/6-Year-Old Amateur Reserve Championship was earned by Catherine Adams, of Aubrey, Texas, and MK Katabatic (High Brow Cat x Runnin Mate x Smart Mate). The duo was the third draw in the finals where they scored a 212, and received a $2,004 paycheck.
