Reining professional Craig SchmersalHi All! I am excited to be a part of the blog with Quarter Horse News! As the new year begins, I am excited about my new 2-year-olds coming in and the future of my now 3-year-olds. For trainers, this is a fun time of year.
We have survived our big futuritys and now get to evaluate our new group of coming futurity horses. With that comes big dreams for the owners as well as excitement and sometimes disappointment for us as trainers. This is the time when we start gradually stepping up the 3-year-olds, putting them in the bridle and asking for more in their maneuvers. They will let us know if they are willing partners or sometimes let us know this is not what they are cut out for. I attended the Sun Circuit in Arizona this year and was able to see the some of the new classes being offered in the AQHA, the ranch pleasure and boxing were two that I had not seen much of. I thought it was a great addition to the Western world. I was excited that some of my reiners that wont make it to the big events will now have a place to show and have a future in another discipline. I look forward to visiting with you all, and if you have any topics you would like to talk about please let me know! Send topic suggestions to [email protected].
