Peter Spadoni wins the Futurity Amateur ChampionshipPeter Spadoni and BR Money Man took the PCCHA/Holy Cow Performance Horses Futurity Amateur Championship, held Oct. 21-Nov. 1 in Paso Robles, California, and didn’t look back.
In the 18-horse Futurity Amateur first go-round, Spadoni drew a spot in the middle of the pack and piloted BR Money Man (Meradas Cookin Now x PCR Ms Starlight x Grays Starlight) to a score of 216, which earned them a spot in the finals.
The duo was last to go out of five in the finals, and they saved the best for last. Spadoni and BR Money Man marked a 219 to take the Championship and a $3,040 paycheck. They were also the Futurity Unlimited Amateur Champions after marking a 215 in the finals, garnering an additional $4,231, bringing their show total to $7,271.
Kacey Garfinkel and Catty Like A Lynx (Tomcat Chex x Peppys Shady Lynx x Peppy Sans Squiggy), marked a 215 to earn the Futurity Amateur Reserve Championship and a $2,530 paycheck for owners and parents Jim and Katie, of Plymouth, California.
The Futurity Unlimited Amateur Reserve Championship went to Suzanne Rodoni-Silverberg, of Santa Cruz, California, and Heavy Metal Cat (Metallic Cat x High Style Travalin x Travalena). The pair scored a 212 and garnered $3,423 for owners West Coast Cutting Horses, of Santa Cruz, California.
Stakes Amateur
John Rockey, of Palmdale, California, piloted his horse Highbrow Silk N Lace (High Brow CD x Sanjo Silk N Lace x San Jo Lena) to victory, giving them the Stakes Amateur Championship with their score of 213.
In the 25-horse first go-round, Rockey and Highbrow Silk N Lace drew fairly early, going in as the sixth horse-and-rider team and setting the bar high. They marked a 216 and had the score to beat, securing them a spot in the finals.
Drawing second in the finals, the duo marked a 213 that held to the end. They garnered $2,579 for their win. The pair was also the Stakes Unlimited Amateur Reserve Champion and earned an additional $3,942, bringing their show total to $6,521.
Receiving the Stakes Amateur Reserve Championship was John Dallaire and his horse Im Countin Freckles (Im Countin Checks x My Wife). The duo marked a 210 and earned a $2,346 paycheck.
Stakes Unlimited Amateur
One Precious Pepto (Peptoboonsmal x Lenas Good Nus x Lenas Jewel Bars) and Stephen Silva made their way into the winner’s circle in the Stakes Unlimited Amateur. The duo scored a 212, earning them the Championship.
Going into the 22-horse first go-round, Silva and One Precious Pepto were early in the draw, but their score of 212 was high enough to advance them to the finals. In the finals, the duo was consistent and scored another 212, earning them the Stakes Unlimited Amateur Championship and a $4,553 paycheck.
Classic/Challenge Amateur
Bear Davis and Boons Trinity (Peptoboonsmal x Smarty Little One x Smart Little Pepinic), owned by his parents, Whitney and Kim, of Sacramento, California, topped the tough competition in the Classis/Challenge Amateur, winning the Championship.
There were 51 horse-and-rider teams in the first go-round, and Davis was fourth to go, marking a score high enough to secure him and his horse a place in the finals. The 17-horse finals proved to be tough, but Davis piloted Boons Trinity to mark a 218 that stood strong to the end, earning them the Championship and a $2,416 paycheck.
Absolut Pepto (Peptoboonsmal x Absolutely Stunning x Smart Little Lena) and Tracey Teixeira, of Los Alamos, California, were the Classic/Challenge Amateur Reserve Champions. The duo earned a $2,208 paycheck for their score of 216.
Classic/Challenge Unlimited Amateur
High Brow Jackson and Scott Gaddy had the winning score in the Classic/Challenge Unlimited Amateur finals, taking the Championship with their score of 219.
Going into the first go-round with 41 entries, Gaddy and High Brow Jackson (High Brow Cat x Money Talks Smart x Smart Mate) were draw 24 and ended up with the score to beat with a 218.5, which advanced them into the finals alongside 12 other competitors.
The duo was first to go in the finals and the rest was history. They scored a cool 219 that held to the end. They ended up with a four-point lead on their nearest competitors, winning the Classic/Challenge Unlimited Amateur. They also garnered a $4,054 paycheck.
Tracey Teixeira and Absolut Pepto were the Classic/Challenge Unlimited Amateur Reserve Champions. They had a score of 215 and received a $3,709 paycheck.
