Net and gross sales rose to all-time highs as a large crowd of reining enthusiasts packed the sale arena both days.

Nearly two-thirds of the way through the first night, Alwaysshineyergunsup walked into the sale ring for consignor McQuay Stables Inc. After several minutes of contentious bidding, the 2013 palomino stallion walked out as the highest seller, with Carol Rose signing the ticket at $80,000.

Alwaysshineyergunsup is sired by Smart And Shiney and out of Always Gotyer Gunsup (Colonels Smoking Gun [Gunner] x Always A Dunit x Hollywood Dun It), aka “Polly.” Mandy McCutcheon rode Polly to Futurity Non-Pro wins at the Southwest Reining Horse Association Futurity and Tulsa Reining Classic before her father, Equi-Stat Elite $3 Million Rider Tim McQuay, stepped aboard to finish seventh in the 2010 National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Futurity Open and win the Prime Time Open. The following year, McCutcheon and Polly finished third in the National Reining Breeders Classic (NRBC) Derby Non-Pro. In 2012, they won the NRBC Derby Non-Pro and were NRHA Derby Non-Pro Reserve Champions, and last year, they won the NRHA Derby Non-Pro and finished second at the NRBC. All told, Always Gotyer Gunsup has an Equi-Stat record of $175,153.

The second-highest seller also came from the Breeders Sale when Hip No. 53, Seismic Reaction, was consigned by Hendricks Reining Horses Inc. and purchased by Frank Costantini for $57,000. A 2013 Hollywood Dun It stallion, Seismic Reaction is a half-brother to four money-earners, three of which are cutters. Their dam is the Grays Starlight mare Herbs Lady, a full sister to 2002 NRBC Derby Open Champion Starlights Wrangler ($128,810).

Six of the top 10 highest sellers came from the Breeders Sale, which sold 80 of 105 catalogued horses (76 percent) for an average of $15,096. The median was $12,000.

The next day, the Legacy Consignment Sale presented 172 horses, selling 154 (90 percent) for an average of $10,429 and a median of $7,500. The top seller from the Consignment Sale, and the third-highest seller overall, was Electric Dexter, a 2013 stallion by Equi-Stat Elite $2 Million Sire Jacs Electric Spark. Kindra Rader consigned Electric Dexter, and Toyon Ranch signed the ticket at $50,000. Electric Dexter is a full brother to Electricity Plus, who has reining earnings of $1,587, according to Equi-Stat, and is an American Quarter Horse Association point-earner.

One broodmare made it into the top 10 list, as Hip No. 351, Ms Sassy Whiz, sold for $36,000. The 2010 mare sold in foal to Gunners Special Nite (Gunner x Mifs Doll x Mifillena). Ellen Perkey bought the mare from consignor Roxanne Koepsell.
