Snip O Lution & Martin Larcombe Martin Larcombe drew up early in the Southwest Reining Horse Association (SWRHA) John Deere Futurity Open Finals on October 25. He was the third out and when his run was completed, a new standard had been set. He piloted Snip O Lution (Einsteins Revolution X Snip O Chex) to a smoking 224.5 score that would hold up through all the rest of the challengers.
About this time last year, Larcombe purchased the big-stopping palomino from Mitzi Kingman Martin for XCS Ranch in Gordonville, Texas, where he is resident trainer. He’s ridden him since and, in his words, “Showed him pretty easy a couple of times,” before going to the Heritage Futurity in early October, where he edged into the top 10. By time for the SWRHA Futurity at the Hardy Murphy Coliseum in Ardmore, Okla., he felt the stallion was ready, and the result was the second John Deere Open Futurity Championship in as many years.
Like last year, Larcombe won the John Deere Gator, sponsored by John Deere and Pettit Machinery. He also won the trophy saddle from Scottsdale Western World and a check for $15,651.
The SWRHA gives a custom golf cart to the owner of the sire of the Futurity Champion that has participated in the annual SWRHA Stallion Auction and that went to Snip O Lution’s sire, Einsteins Revolution.
Reserve honors went to National Reining Horse Association $2 Million Rider Tim McQuay on Pinstripe Benz (Smart Starbuck X Dun It For Chex), owned by Benzco International, of Tioga, Texas. McQuay earned a score of 221.5 to earn $9,527 and a pair of Anderson Bean boots.
In the Level 3 Open, Brian Bell topped the field of 24 finalists on Ruffolution (Einsteins Revolution X Ruffle Me Up), owned by Doug Van Rees of Canfield, Ohio, with a score of 220. That earned $7,821 and a custom saddle sponsored by the SWRHA.
Ruffolution earned his sire, Einsteins Revolution, a buckle for the Level 3 win.
There was a tie for the Reserve title in the Level 3 between Ryan Rushing and Liam McNeil, both scoring 219.5 to earn $4,167 each.
They also tied for the Level 2 Championship – Rushing on Lil Gaga Gun, owned by Paul and Pam Rohus of Royse City, Texas, and Liam on Tinseltown Tuffy, owned by Werner Hermus of Valley View, Texas. That Level 2 tie added another $2,421 to each of their totals.
McNeil also won the Level 1 Championship, earning another $513 for Hermus and garnering the Level 1 sire buckle for Hollywoodstinseltown owners, Dave and Bonnie Silva.
The Einsteins Revolution Open Mare Bonus of $1,000 went to Lil Miss Einshine (Einsteins Revolution X Miss Rey O Shine) ridden by Carol Metcalf and owned by Jill Martin, of Houston, Texas.
