Dr. Kathleen P. AndersonDr. Kathleen P. Anderson, Associate Professor/Equine Extension Specialist from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, was recently honored as the recipient of the 2014 Equine Science Award. The award was presented in conjunction with the American Society of Animal Science (ASAS) at the Joint Annual Science Meetings held in Kansas City, Mo. She is the fifth recipient of this award since it was established in 2008.
Sponsored by Zinpro Corporation, the Equine Science Award honors outstanding achievements in the areas of extension, research, teaching or agribusiness in the equine industry.
“We honor Dr. Kathleen P. Anderson for her exceptional extension and teaching work in the field of equine science,” says Russ Wyllie, Vice President of Sales – The Americas, Zinpro Corporation. “She has had a major influence on youth in Nebraska through her leadership in the Nebraska Horse 4-H Extension program. Her influence continues at the university level with her strong focus on teaching at the undergraduate level. She is also involved in adult equine education throughout the state, in addition to being a leader at the national level in HorseQuest.”
Dr. Anderson earned a doctorate in animal science from Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kan. She earned a master’s degree in the physiology of reproduction from Texas A&M University, in College Station, Tex. She received a bachelor’s degree in animal science/agricultural education from the University of Nebraska, in Lincoln, Neb.
Dr. Anderson has been Extension Horse Specialist for the University of Nebraska with teaching and extension responsibilities since 1991. She has built a highly respected, visible and comprehensive equine program bridging youth development, horse owner education, and development of undergraduate students. It is common for her to develop relationships with youth during their 4-H years, advise them as undergraduates, and then assist them post-graduation on career paths. Dr. Anderson is an extension and teaching professional who has used a variety of methods to promote and deliver educational activities.
