Zane Davis Brings The Heat In Pueblo

The rider at the top of the results sheet in the Open division is Zane Davis, of Blackfoot, Idaho, who has both the first- and second-place horses under his saddle.

Leading the field of Open contenders after two events is Brother Jackson (Peptoboonsmal x Shes Icing Onthe Cat x High Brow Cat), owned by John Semanik. The 2009 stallion has a composite 293.5 (145.5 rein/148 herd) on two events. His 148 herd work was the high score of the day.

Davis’ second-place horse is Rubys Radar (One Time Pepto x Ruby Bagonia x Peppy San Badger), a 4-year-old stallion owned by Billie Filippini. Rubys Radar has a 292.5 (146.5 rein/146 herd) total so far, and he won the rein work round Wednesday in Pueblo.

Exhibitors show in the final preliminary event, the cow work, on Friday, May 2, which will determine who moves on to Saturday’s cow work-only finals. A culmination of the finals score and the three preliminary scores will decide the 2014 Hackamore Classic champions.

Intermediate Open

The Hackamore Classic Intermediate Open composite leader is Coolreys (Dual Rey x Olena Cindy x Doc O’Lena), shown by Justin Lawrence, of Alzada, Mont., and owned by Robin Dangel. The 2010 mare has a 287 (142 rein/145 herd) total on two events.

Limited Open

The Hackamore Classic Limited Open composite leader is Jojo Tari (Little Polo Joe x Tari Acre x Bob Acre Doc), shown and owned by Lavert Avent, of Watrous, N.M. The 2009 mare has a combined 286 (140 rein/145.5 herd) score on two events. That score also places Jojo Tari in a tie for second place in the Hackamore Classic Intermediate Open.

Level 1 Limited Open

The aptly-named Coloradoboonsmal (Peptoboonsmal x Miss Playboys Josie x Freckles Playboy), shown by Keith Vogel, of Avondale, Colo., for owner Ted Swanson, leads the Limited Open division with a 282 composite (139 rein/143 herd).

Novice Horse Open

Reys Star Cat (High Brow Cat x Reys Starlight x Grays Starlight) maintained the top spot in the Novice Horse Open division, scoring a 143 in the herd work. Added to his 145.5 rein work score, he holds the lead with a 288.5 total on two events. The 5-year-old gelding is shown by NRCHA Two Million Dollar Rider Todd Crawford and owned by Dominic Conicelli.

Non-Pro, Intermediate Non-Pro & Novice Non-Pro

Riding her 2010 gelding Cats Genuine Joker (High Rollin Cat x Zanzgenuinelighting x Genuine Doc), Karey Franz, of Longmont, Colo., leads the Non-Pro, Intermediate Non-Pro and Novice Non-Pro divisions. She has a total 287 (145 rein/142 herd) on two events.

Amateur

Wolfford, Texas, horseman Parke Greeson maintained the lead in the Amateur division aboard Checkn Out The Ladys (Im Countin Checks x No Lady Wood x Zack T Wood). Greeson and the 4-year-old gelding scored a 142.5 in the rein work and 138 in the herd work for a total of 280.5 on two events.
