DualNTuff RPlendlDual N Tuff & Reyly PlendlAs the last few days of competition wind down at the Four Sixes Ranch/NCHA Western National Championships in Denver, Colo., cutters are still giving it their all to walk away with the remaining titles. On May 6, Reyly Plendl won the $50,000 Amateur Championship aboard Dual N Tuff.

After marking a 216 in the first go, Plendl came back to the finals to mark an impressive score of 221 to take the title and earned $6,718. The 14-year-old Kingsley, Iowa, cutter’s momentum had already been rising before the finals. The night before, she took third place in the $35,000 Non-Pro with Dual N Tuff (Dual Rey x Cats Little Gal), owned by her father, Rick, where she earned a check worth $3,231. Her twin sister, Regan, took first place in those finals, and also won the Junior Youth Championship. Needless to say, the young siblings’ first time to the Western Nationals has been quite successful.

“I wasn’t expecting that,” Plendl said after her winning ride. “After the run yesterday, I was just really pumped for today. All of my help was telling me to slow down,” she added, smiling.

The $50,000 Amateur Reserve Championship went to Carlos Nino De Rivera, of Holdrege, Neb., and Barnmasterson (Cat T Masterson x Amanda May). The duo marked a 217 for the title and earned $5,321.

The Western Nationals continue through Thursday, May 8, with Non-Pro and Novice/Non-Pro competition. For full coverage of the event, subscribe to Quarter Horse News.
