A pair of 218s would secure the title for two horse-and-rider duos.

Jamie Hill, of Bastrop, Texas, piloted Cat Countin Checks (Im Countin Checks x A Cat Above x High Brow Cat), a mare bred by her mother, Jo Goertz, to the first of the winning scores from the third draw in the 19-horse finals. Her performance set the bar high in the pack, and until the next-to-last draw, she proved untouchable.

When Silverton, Texas-based Ryder Carpenter and Blazin Flash (Purdy Boy Flash x Rose Marie Merada x Freckles Merada), bred by Jack Waggoner and Susan Ferguson, walked to the herd, they would put in their best effort to tie for the lead.

Each team earned $4,366 for their Championship. This win brings both Hill’s and Carpenter’s lifetime earnings to more than $200,000. Blazin Flash and Carpenter will return on Tuesday, April 8, for the Classic/Challenge Non-Pro finals, too.

The NCHA Super Stakes Classic/Challenge Senior Limited Non-Pro Champions were Monty Johnson and Creedence Clearwater (Peptoboonsmal x Duals Play Kit x Kit Dual), who also finished in the top 15 of the Limited Non-Pro finals. They were the only team entered in the Senior class to advance to the finals.
