Canadian bill aims to tighten horse slaughter control

A bill introduced in Canada would require horses to have lifetime medical records before being accepted for slaughter. Backers of the bill, which includes the Humane Society International/Canada, say current regulations do not stop horses treated with banned substances from entering the food chain, and believe the bill could prevent tens of thousands of horses from being slaughtered.
