The National Reined Cow Horse Association (NRCHA) Board of Directors has approved changes affecting two upcoming 2014 Premier Events: the Hackamore Classic, held April 30-May 4 in Pueblo, Colo.; and the Derby, held June 9-14 in Paso Robles, Calif.
In an effort to encourage participation in the Non-Pro Limited class, a new $1,000 Non-Pro Limited division will be offered at the Hackamore Classic and the Derby. This is a provisional, jackpot-only (no added money) class geared toward beginners. To enter, riders must meet all Non-Pro Limited eligibility rules and, in addition, may not have more than $1,000 in lifetime NRCHA earnings. Riders in the $1,000 Non-Pro Limited are not required to own the horse they are showing, and the class will be drawn separately from the Non-Pro Limited and $5,000 Non-Pro Limited (not concurrent).
Another important exhibitor note affecting future NRCHA Premier Events, beginning with the 2014 Derby: Entry deadlines for the limited-age event classes (derby and futurity) and the horse show classes will be the same. This will assist show management in acquiring a more accurate cattle count, which results in cost savings for the association.
