Armando Costa Neto Tops 5/6-Year-Old Non-Pro At The Cattlemen’s

Neto Armando CostaArmando Costa NetoThe Cattlemen’s Derby and Classic came to an end Sunday, March 9, in Graham, Texas. The event’s last weekend hosted the final rounds of Non-Pro, Amateur and Unlimited Amateur competition, and the show-goers didn’t disappoint with the action.
In the 5/6-Year-Old Non-Pro finals, Armando Costa Neto, of Weatherford, Texas, piloted 2008 mare Look The Look (High Brow Cat x Dual Lookin Pep x Dual Pep) to mark a score of 221. Their Championship came with a check worth $7,125. The mare, owned by Fazenda Barrinha Corp., of Weatherford, and bred by Ken Jackson, of Hermann, Mo., now boasts an Equi-Stat record of more than $141,200.

The 5/6-Year-Old Non-Pro Reserve Championship went to Weatherford resident Chad Bushaw and Bet On A Cat (High Brow Cat x Bet On Houston x Peptoboonsmal), owned by Crown Ranch LP, of Weatherford, and bred by Niangua River Ranch, of Eldridge, Mo. The duo marked a 215.5 for the title and earned $6,300.

Coopersburg, Pa., cutter Michelle Sly piloted her 2009 gelding MK Smooth Texas (Smooth As A Cat x Meradas Chiq Oak x Meradas Money Talks) to win the 5/6-Year-Old Amateur finals with a 217. They also made a run in the 5/6-Year-Old Unlimited Amateur finals to marked a 222 for their second title. Sly and the gelding, bred by the Gene McKown Living Trust, of Norman, Okla., took home more than $5,000 in prize money.

The 5/6-Year-Old Amateur Reserve title went to Barbara Eccott, of Princeton, British Columbia, Canada, and her gelding ATM Wild Haired Cat (Wild Haired Cat x Another Tornado Mate x Smart Mate), bred by Dan Churchill, of Moline, Ill. The duo marked a score of 216 to earn $2,429.

With a score of 220, the 4-Year-Old Non-Pro Championship went to Poolville, Texas, resident Dustin Adams and Cat Scann (High Brow Cat x Reyann Hickory x Dual Rey). Their title came with a check for $7,500. Cat Scann is owned and bred by Adams and his wife, Deena.

The 4-Year-Old Non-Pro Reserve Championship went to WSR Hal Of A Promise (Halreycious x Hickorys Promise x Doc’s Hickory), bred by Lloyd Cox, of Fort Morgan, Colo., and Austin Adams, of Poolville.

The 4-Year-Old Unlimited Amateur Championship went to Robert Tieperman, of Jewett, Texas, and TS Reys N Cats (Rey Dual x Hide A Kitty x High Brow Cat), bred by Robert and Lynn Meyer, of Wake Forest, N.C. The duo marked a 215 in the finals to earn the title and a check worth $3,000.

Taking the 4-Year-Old Unlimited Amateur Reserve Championship and $2,453 with a 214 was Wade Smith, of Geary, Okla., and his mare Lil Pep N Time (One Time Pepto x Shortys Lil Pep x Dual Pep), bred by Matthews Cutting Horses LLC, of Warsaw, N.C. Smith and Lil Pep N Time also took the 4-Year-Old Amateur Championship with a score of 217 and earned an additional $3,000.
