“Lipstick” (High Brow Cat x Tapt Twice x Dual Pep), bred by Phil and Mary Ann Rapp, of Weatherford, Texas, and owned by Waco Bend Ranch, of Graham, Texas, headed to the World Finals with $795,120 in career earnings. The mare soared past the $800,000 mark by topping Round 2 of the Open on Nov. 30 with a 231. The night before, she was second in the first round with a 225.5. Those two performances were worth $10,863 and established her as the Open division average leader through two of four rounds.

“She’s just as good now as she’s ever been,” Phil Rapp said. “She is just special. She’s just one of those rare, rare horses that God gives us every once in a while.”

She’s also now a highly regarded broodmare, with one 3-year-old, two 2-year-olds, one yearling and two weanlings on the ground. The 3-year-old, Dont Look Now, competed in the first go of the NCHA Futurity Open but zeroed out. Because of her value as a broodmare, it’s unlikely the 2011 NCHA Open Horse of the Year and 2012 NCHA Open World Champion will ever haul heavily again. At the same time, Rapp said there are no plans to retire her, and it’s likely she will compete again in Mercuria/NCHA World Series of Cutting events.

With two Open rounds and a pencil finals left in the NCHA World Finals, Dont Look Twice had increased her earnings to $806,001, according to Equi-Stat records. The only cutting horses who have earned more are Poco Quixote Rio ($1,108,885), Red White And Boon ($922,063), Sister CD ($852,612) and Dual Rey Me ($818,177). Sister CD is the only active cutter who has earned more than Dont Look Twice.
