Calgary World Series of Cutting Cancelled

logo calgaryCalgary, Alberta, Can., home of the world-famous Calgary Stampede Rodeo, suffered severe flooding that necessitated evacuation of hundreds of thousands of people last week and it has cancelled the city’s planned July 8 Mercuria/National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) World Series of Cutting event.

Calgary’s new Saddledome had been set to host the event for the first time, but it suffered extreme damage. Event officials still plan to start the 101st Calgary Stampede as planned on July 5, despite the devastating flooding that crippled the city. In its 101-year history, the Calgary Stampede has never been cancelled. Offers of help have also came in from Toronto, California, Missouri and Texas, show officials said.

No replacement location or date is planned to for the cancelled Mercuria/NCHA cutting, NCHA director of marketing Julie Bryant said. Remaining 2013 Mercuria/NCHA World Series Of Cutting events, featuring $25,000 in added money for both Non-Pro and Open any-age divisions, are still scheduled for Aug. 31-Sept. 1 in Nampa, Idaho, Sept. 13-14 in Rancho Murrieta, Calif., Oct. 9-10 in Columbus, Ohio, Oct. 30-Nov. 3 in Lyon, France, and Nov. 6-8 in Kansas City, Mo.
