Each Derby had three Open divisions. Martina Morell, riding Dun Gotta Prize (Dun It Gotta Gun x Senorita Enterprise x Be Aech Enterprise) for Leigh Garber, Cazenovia, N.Y., scored a 225.5 to win all six open divisions offered.

The event took place Saturday evening and had a total of 62 entries vying for a total of $51,000 in added money. Morell and Garber’s 5-year-old gelding won a total of $22,696! “And tonight put me over $100,000 in (NRHA) earnings,” said an enthusiastic Morell.

Morell, 34, a native of Toronto, Canada, came to the United States in 2003. She worked for Mark Arballo, Bryant Pace then put in six years training with Dutch Chapman. She went to work training reining horses for Leigh and Rick Garber at their Cazabu Farms, Cazenovia, N.Y. in 2011.

Morell started riding Dun Gotta Prize last year and has a slew of trophies to prove their success. They started this year in February with impressive wins at the Florida Reining Horse Association’s Derby, Tampa, Fla. They won the Derby Open Level 3, Level 2 and placed tie third in Level 4.
