1,000 Emaciated Cattle Found On NM Ranch

An estimated 1,000 cattle on a drought-stricken ranch near Fort Sumner have become so emaciated that their owner has been charged with 25 counts of cruelty to animals and state officials are considering seizing the herd.

Over the past week, officials have stepped in to confiscate and move over a quarter of the cattle at Double V Ranch to good pasture in other parts of the state. The remaining animals are expected to be moved in the near future.
