Kaitlyn Larsen, Light N Lily Cut Last and Best in Super Stakes Classic Non-Pro

KaitlynLarsen LightNLily webKaitlyn Larsen, McKennon Wimberly and Light N LilyKaitlyn Larsen and 6-year-old homebred mare Light N Lily secured their third title of early 2013 by topping Tuesday’s Classic Limited Non-Pro finals at the National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Super Stakes with a last-draw 222 effort.

Larsen, 23, Millsap, Texas, and the 2007 mare (Light N Lena x Meradas Oh Cay x Freckles) bred her father, Non-Pro Hall Of Fame cutter Billy Martin, picked up $19,571 with their third win. More importantly to Larsen, who finished second in last year’s any-age NCHA Non-Pro Rider standings, it established Light N Lily as an early leader in this year’s NCHA Limited-Age Non-Pro Horse of the Year race.

Larsen and Light N Lily won a Classic Non-Pro title during the Cattlemen’s Derby in Graham, Texas this March. They also took top honors at their first big show of the 2013 season, the Abilene Cutting Spectacular, with a 224.5 finish in early January.

A first-set 221.5 by Super Stakes Classic Non-Pro Reserve Champions Ashley Snider, 26, Lipan, Texas, and her 6-year-old gelding Sly Chance (That Sly Cat x Oaks Smart Chance x Doc’s Oak) had them in line for their third consecutive limited-age championship. Then Larsen and Light N Lily’s 222 finish abruptly ended their winning streak, which started at The Bonanza and ended at the Arbuckle Mountain Futurity.

Larsen and Light N Lily finished second behind Snider and Sly Chance at February’s Bonanza Cutting, and were finalists at January’s Augusta Futurity in Augusta, Ga.
