Cuttin With Shynia Rescheduled For Memorial Day Weekend

ShyniaCuttingLogoThe fifth annual Cuttin With Shynia Memorial Scholarship Cutting has been rescheduled for May 25-27 in Kearney, Neb. The prior date conflicted with the mid-summer National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Youth World Finals.

Platte Valley Cutters decided to share the stage with the scholarship event during their own annual Memorial Day cutting. This year’s Shynia Memorial Scholarship Cutting features $18,000 in scholarships, honoring Shynia’s 18th birthday.

The first four Shynia Memorial Scholarship cuttings awarded $50,000 in scholarships. The first event was in 2009 in Hutchinson, Kan. It moved to Garden City, Kan., in 2010, and took place in Westcliffe, Colo., in 2011 and 2012.

Scholarships are awarded in each round and after each final round. All participants receive special gifts. Finalists also receive jackets, and Junior and Senior Champion cutters each receive trophy saddles.

Contact LeeAnn Bates, 620-664-7230, for entry forms. Generous donations create all funding for the event’s scholarships and awards. No administrative fees are paid, and all work is performed by volunteers.
