Stylish Rey Dies

smartlittlelenaheadshot2Stylish ReyStylish Rey, an National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Open Futurity finalist and young sire, died Jan. 28 at age 12. Stylish Rey has excelled as a stallion, with foals earning a combined $274,312 as cutters and working cow horses through early 2013, according to Equi-Stat records.

Stylish Rey (Dual Rey x Stylish Play Lena x Docs Stylish Oak), carried trainer Lloyd Cox to the Derby Open $10,000 Limited title with a 222 finish at the 2005 Breeder’s Invitational cutting to earn $22,416. Stylish Rey and Cox also reached the National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Super Stakes Open finals the same year. The horse retired with career cutting earnings of $30,235. Stylish Rey was bred by Linda Holmes, Longmont, Colo., who owned the stallion until Nov. 21, 2012, when she sold him to Stylish Rey LLC, a Stephenville, Texas-based partnership.

His leading earner, at $58,990, is Stylishnfancy (Stylish Rey x Playgirl Fancy x Grays Starlight), a gelding owned by Dallan Jeppesen, Rexberg, Idaho, and ridden by Zane Davis. Stylishnfancy finished third in the Snaffle Bit Open at the 2011 National Reined Cow Horse Association (NRCHA) Snaffle Bit Futurity.

Cutting mare Bettye Grable (Stylish Rey x High Brows Nurse x High Brow Hickory), bred and owned by Holmes, earned $50,609 early into her 5-year-old season. She made the finals at several cutting events with Non-Pro rider Holmes and four different Open riders.

Stylish Rey had been scheduled to stand at Shadow Oaks Ranch in Stephenville, Texas for the 2013 breeding season. Frozen semen is still available.
