Todd and Susie Randles have conducted a multi-faceted scholarship program in loving honor and memory of their daughter Shynia. With the support of friends, families and youth cutters, the Randles family has created an organization called Cuttin with Shynia.
“The love they show us is overwhelming,” Todd and Susie wrote in a letter to the public. “Shynia touched many people during her short time on earth, as she followed her dreams in competing as a youth and non-pro cutter, and this program was set up to keep her legacy alive.”
Since June 2009, Cuttin with Shynia has awarded $50,000 in scholarship money, along with finalist awards and gifts for each competitor, all of which are purchased with money from donors and fundraising activities. The goal for 2013 is to award $18,000 in scholarships, as Shynia would have been 18 this year.
The major fundraiser is an online stallion auction, to which numerous stallion owners have donated breedings. Thanks to the expertise of Big Sky Internet Design, a website has been set up (www.cuttinwithshynia.com) to advertise and bid on the prestigious stallions.
A separate memorial award is given to a Junior Youth each July at the Summer Spectacular in Fort Worth, Texas. Sponsors for this memorial award are separate from the scholarship cuttings. Forms and qualifications for this award can be found on the NYCHA website (www.nychaonline.com), as well as on www.cuttinwithshynia.com.
“The words, ‘Thank You,’ do not begin to describe what we feel for our sponsors and friends, as they have graciously helped to keep Shynia’s cutting legend with each and every one of us,” the Randles wrote. “We thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.”
