McEntire Flying High in Florida

MikeMcEntireFeb13Mike McEntireRiding Red Strip Spook (Smart Spook x Ms Red Capri x Jacs Aledo Bar) owned by David Evans, Mike McEntire, Selma, N.C., scored a 226.5 to win the $10,000 added Level 4 Open division of the Florida Reining Horse Association (FRHA) Florida Classic Derby, held during the FRHA Florida Classic, Feb. 19-24 in Tampa, Fla.

McEntire and Red Strip Spook were the 2010 NRHA Futurity Open Level 4 Reserve Champions. Last year, after winning the Carolina Classic Derby in May, Red Stripe Spook was injured and spent the remainder of the year recuperating.

“I’m glad he’s back,” said McEntire who earned $5,158 for the win.

But it didn’t stop there. Riding Big Hollywood Cowboy (Dun It Big x Photons Cowgirl x Photon) owned by Laura and Jon Ingram, McEntire scored a 224 for second place and an additional $4,053.

Dun Gotta Prize (Dun It Gotta Gun x Senorita Enterprise x Be Aech Enterprise), ridden by Martina Morell for Leigh Garber, Erieville, N.Y., scored a 222.5 to place tie third in the Level 4 Open. That good scored earned the Championships in the $7,000 added Level 3 Intermediate Open and the $5,000 Level 2 Limited Open divisions. Dun Gotta Prize earned $9,497 for one ride.

With a score of 218, Hezawhizzinpistolena (Another Great Whiz x Squaws Jo Alena x King Pistolena), ridden by Gilad Susman, Selma, N.C., for Philip Lanier, earned the win in the $2,000 added Level 1 Open and a check for $1,215.
