ARC Ruby Playgunia Picks Up Mercuria Open Win

mattbudgemt3Matt BudgeARC Ruby Playgunia and Matt Budge won the Open division of the Mercuria/National Cutting Horse Association World Series of Cutting, held Feb. 24-25, at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo in Texas.

ARC Ruby Paygunia (Playgun x Ruby Bagonia x Playboys Ruby), and Budge, Weatherford, Texas, marked a 229 in the Open finals Monday, Feb. 25. The 2006 mare, owned by Jackpot Business LLC, Weatherford, Texas, and bred by Arcese Quarter Horses, also of Weatherford, has an Equi-Stat record of $108,673. She was also the winner of the 2012 Abilene Cutting Spectacular 5/6-Year-Old Open after she and Budge marked a 222.

Non-Pro

Brandon Dufurrena, the 2012 NCHA Non-Pro World Champion, marked a 226 aboard family-bred Nievas (Cats Merada x Smart Little Boogie x EG Southern Dancer) in the Non-Pro finals. The 6-year-old, owned by Dufurrena, Gainsville, Texas, has an Equi-Stat record of $213,286. She and Dufurrena have won several prestigious limited-age titles, including the Limited Non-Pro Championship at the NCHA Derby.
