Spectators at the reining finals at the American Quarter Horse Association World Show in Oklahoma City buckled up for more action with every class, with Whizkey N Diamonds (Topsail Whiz x Princess In Diamonds x Shining Spark) and Shawn Flarida earning a scorching 228.5 to win the Senior Reining, and Lil Joe Cash (Nu Chex To Cash x RS Lilly Starlight x Grays Starlight) and Andrea Fappani marking an equally fiery 228 to win the Junior Reining Nov. 10.

Proud owner of Lil Joe Cash is J. Russell Giles, Waco, Texas, and Rhodes River Ranch, Arlington, Wash., owns Whizkey N Diamonds and plans to stand the stallion at stud in 2013. Flarida, his longtime trainer, obviously has a soft spot in his heart for the stallion and said he hoped to get the chance to show the stallion a few more times.

Amateurs got the ball rolling a few days earlier, when Courtney Boesch, Porterville, Calif., and Northwest Whiz (West Coast Whiz x Jessie Dot Tari x Jodies Doc Tari) scored 214 to tie for the win with Shevin Haverty, Krum, Texas, and Who Whiz Who (Who Whiz It x Roosters Roan Chexx x Gallo Del Cielo), a wedding gift from father-in-law Clint Haverty. Boesch won a workoff for the World Championship, with Haverty collecting the Reserve Championship in her first trip to the finals.
