Just last May, Wimpys Little Step proved his prowess as a reining horse sire by becoming the youngest Two Million Dollar Sire in National Reining Horse history, by a margin of five years. As of October 2011, he is now officially the youngest sire – again by a margin of five years – to cross the three million dollar plateau with a total of $3,011,636 earned by his progeny.
Wimpys Little Step joins NRHA legends Hollywood Dun It, Topsail Whiz, Smart Chic Olena, Shining Spark and Gallo Del Cielo in the three million dollar sire category.
Already an NRHA Hall of Fame inductee, his offspring at the recent High Roller Reining Classic helped him achieve this elite status in the NRHA record books. Wimp Daddy (out of Cody Kay Quixote x Codys Clone), bred by Mark Schols, Celine, Texas, and owned by Carlos Gonzalez, Mexico, earned more than $11,600. Show Me The Buckles (out of Sunset Whiz x Topsail Whiz), bred by Michael and Barbi Boyle, Princeton, Ky., and owned by Rebeca Martin, Gold River, Calif., racked up more than $6,200. Nearly a dozen of his offspring combined forces to earn the final few thousand dollars needed.
The 12-year-old stallion by Hall of Fame inductee and Million Dollar Sire Nu Chex To Cash and out of Leolita Step (by Forty Seven) has an impressive show record himself, winning the 2002 NRHA Futurity Open and earning over $185,000 in just three NRHA competitions with current NRHA Four Million Dollar Rider Shawn Flarida. With only five performing foal crops, he has already proven his ability to pass his talent on to future generations. He was bred by Hilldale Farm, Fayetteville, Tenn., is owned by Xtra Quarter Horses LLC of Purcell, Okla. where he currently stands. “Wimpy’s” offspring include some of today’s top reining horses. Wimpys Little Chic (out of Collena Chic Olena x Smart Chic Olena) is the first horse in NRHA history to win the NRHA Futurity, National Reining Breeders Classic, and NRHA Derby consecutively. The 7-year-old mare bred by Double Run Farm, Leland, N.C., and owned by Arcese Quarter Horses, Weatherford, Texas, was the first horse to top $500,000 in NRHA earnings. As of today, she has won over $514,800 in NRHA competition making her NRHA’s current lifetime earnings leader. RC Fancy Step (out of Sonita Wilson x Doc Wilson), bred by Bernie Paetzel, New Vienna, Ohio, and owned by Buffalo Ranch, Fort Worth, Texas, is an NRHA Derby Open, All American Quarter Horse Congress and three-time Wimpys Little Step Derby champion, as well as an Alltech Fédération Equestre Internationale World Equestrian Games Team Reining gold medalist with over $351,000 in earnings.
