$4 Million Reining Rider Shawn Flarida, Springfield, Ohio, piloted Wimps Chocolate Chip to the top of the $100,000 CRI3 at the Ariat Kentucky Reining Cup in Lexington, Ky., held April 26-28.

The 2005 stallion (Wimpys Little Step x Tejana Chic x Smart Chic Olena), owned by Clark Reining Horses LLC, Catlettsburg, Ky., and bred by Brent Loseke, Aubrey, Texas, marked a 228 for top honors. That score bested the Reserve Champions, Chic Olena Starbuck (Smart Starbuck x Sanger Chic x Smart Chic Olena) and Tom McCutcheon, Aubrey, by a four-point margin.

Wimps Chocolate Chip, who has been shown mostly by Rick Clark in the Non-Pro, had posted $44,521 to his Equi-Stat record before winning in Lexington and Flarida has garnered more than $4.6 million throughout his career.

The Ariat Kentucky Reining Cup also offered a World Freestyle Championship. Aboard A Ruf Gal (Lil Ruf Peppy x My Topsail Gal x Topsail Whiz), bred by Green Valley Ranch, Aubrey, Texas, co-owner Pete Kyle, Whitesboro, Texas, took the Champion title. The horse-and-rider team showed creative moves worth a 227.5 score, which would top Reserve by one point.

The 2006 mare, owned by Pete and Tamra Kyle, had an Equi-Stat record of nearly $33,000 prior to her performance in Kentucky. Pete recently surpassed the $500,000 mark. A Ruf Gal and Pete also tied for 10th in the $100,000 CRI3 with a 218.5.
