The NRHA Cinch Futurity Non-Pro finals were held on Friday, Dec. 2, 2011, and thanks to the NRHA Foal Nomination Program, reiners went home quite a bit richer than in years past. Veronica St-Onge, Gainesville, Texas, rode Spooks N Sparks (Smart Spook x Whizicle x Topsail Whiz), owned by St-Onge Reining Horses Inc., to the high score of 221 to win the Level 4 and Level 3 Intermediate divisions of the Cinch NRHA Futurity Non-Pro.
That one ride was worth a total of $65,263!*
“I can’t believe it,” St-Onge said. This 3-year-old mare was bred and nominated to the NRHA Foal Nomination Program by Andre DeBellefuille’s Equine Plus, Quebec, Canada.
NRHA Million Dollar Rider and multiple-time NRHA Futurity Non-Pro Champion, Mandy McCutcheon, Aubrey, Texas, scored a 220 on Justa Smart Star (Smart Starbuck x Justa Spring Freckle x Freckle Kid), owned by Mandy and her husband, Tom, to earn the Reserve Championship and $28,154. Justa Smart Star was nominated to the NRHA Foal Nomination Program by Tom McCutcheon.
Quincy Cahill Allen, Madison, Texas, rode her Conquistador Chick (Conquistador Whiz x Dun It By Chick x Hollywood Dun It) to a score of 219 to earn the Level 3 Non-Pro Reserve Championship and $17,195. Conquistador Chic was nominated to the Program by Mark Bradford.

Mike Jeffcoat, a County Extension Educator from Waurika, Okla., rode Spooks Gotta Run (Spooks Gotta Gun x Prettywhizprettydoes x Topsail Whiz) to the Championship in the Level 2 Limited Non-Pro and Prime Time divisions with a score of 218. He earned a finals paycheck worth $20,475. Spooks Gotta Run, nominated to the Program by Clint Haverty, is a full brother to the 2010 NRHA Futurity Open Champion, Spooks Gotta Whiz, ridden by Jordan Larson for Michell Kimball.
Rick Christen, Whitehouse, Ohio, was the Prime Time Reserve Champion aboard his Gunner On Ice (Colonels Smoking Gun [Gunner] x Dancin For Joy x Boonlight Dancer). Christen scored a 217.5 and earned $1,935. Gunner On Ice was nominated to the Program by Sergio Elia.
Felix Schnabel came a long way to win the Level 1 division on Gunner Be Good (Colonels Smoking Gun [Gunner] x Bay Brim Hat x Hollywood Return). He hails from Walldorf, Germany! Schnabel scored a 215.5 and was the Reserve Champion in Level 2 and the Champion in Level 1. The 21-year-old earned a finals paycheck that totaled $22,297! Gunner Be Good was nominated to the Program by Roxanne Koepsell.
Abby Lengel, Burlington, Colo., and her Einsteinshersheykiss (Einsteins Revolution x Smart Clark Bar x Smart Peppy Doc) scored a 215 to earn the Level 1 Reserve Championship and $7,126. This 3-year-old mare was nominated to the Program by Double K Ranch.
The Youth Non-Pro division, determined by the preliminary go-round score, was won by Javier Melo, 15, Pinecrest, Fla. This was Melo’s first trip to the Cinch NRHA Futurity! Melo scored a 214 and earned $416.
Emily Winegar, Aubrey, Texas, rode Master Moonstone (Master Snapper x Moonstone Mega x Marthas Mega Jac), owned by Green Valley Ranch, to second place. She earned $352.
