Futurity Youth Non-Pro Champions Wimpy Little Girl and Javier Melo
The final section of the go-round in the National Reining Horse Association/ Cinch Futurity Non-Pro was held on Tues., Nov. 29. Veronica St-Onge, Gainesville, Texas, and Spooks N Sparks (Smart Spook x Whizicle x Topsail Whiz), owned by St-Onge Reining Horses Inc., ended the second section leading the Level 4 Non-Pro and Level 3 Non-Pro divisions. Although many seasoned competitors challenged their score of 221 in the third section, they maintained the lead in the end.

With less than 10 horses remaining in the final section, Abby Lengel piloted her Einsteinshersheykiss (Einsteins Revolution x Smart Clark Bar x Smart Peppy Doc) to a score of 216 and moved into the lead in the Level 2 Limited Non-Pro and Level 1 Non-Pro divisions.

Javier Melo, Pinecrest, Fla., ended the round with a score of 214 to claim the win in the Youth Non-Pro division. Melo scored a 214 on his Wimpy Little Girl (Wimpys Little Step x Senoritas Serenade x Hollywood Dun It).

Nov. 29, Futurity Non-Pro Leaders After First Go-Round/Second Section

Non-pro reiners entered the arena Nov. 28 in the second of three sections in the go-round. Veronica St-Onge, Gainesville, Texas, set the pace early in the second section with a score of 221 on Spooks N Sparks (Smart Spook x Whizicle x Topsail Whiz). They currently lead the Level 4 Non-Pro and Level 3 Intermediate Non-Pro divisions.St-Onge Reining Horses Inc. owns the mare.

Allison Sutton, Gainesville, Texas, and Whiz N Chexy Chic (Topsail Whiz x Tinky Chex Chic x Smart Chic Olena) continue to lead the Level 2 Non-Pro and Level 1 Non-Pro divisions with a score of 215. Gary Sutton owns the Topsail Whiz mare.

Javier Melo, Pinecrest, Fla., holds the No. 1 position in the Youth Non-Pro division. Melo scored a 214 on his Wimpy Little Girl (Wimpys Little Step x Senoritas Serenade x Hollywood Dun It). The pair also holds second in the Level 2 Non-Pro and Level 1 Non-Pro divisions.

The third section of the Futurity Non-Pro go-round takes place Tues., Nov. 29, and the consolation round will be held Wed., Nov. 30. The Non-Pro finals will be held Fri., Dec. 2.

The $260,00-added 2011 National Reining Horse Association/Cinch Futurity Non-Pro entered the Oklahoma State Fair Park Coliseum Nov. 27 with the first section of the go-round. Frederick Christen, Whitehouse, Ohio, and Gunner On Ice (Colonels Smoking Gun [Gunner] x Dancin For Joy x Boonlight Dancer) earned a 217.5 to lead the $100,000-added Level 4 Non-Pro division.  Christen has won nearly $170,000 in NRHA competition, including a third-place finish on Gunner On Ice at the 2011 Scottsdale Classic Futurity.

In the $70,000-added Level 3 Intermediate Non-Pro division, Dublin, Ohio’s Carlie Thompson rode her Crome Dont Corrode (Custom Crome x Maggie Chex x Buenonic Chex) to a score of 216 for the lead. They came to the NRHA Futurity after winning the Level 4 Non-Pro division at the All American Quarter Horse Congress Reining Futurity. Thompson has nearly $145,000 in NRHA lifetime earnings.

Allison Sutton, Gainesville, Texas, and Whiz N Chexy Chic lead the Level 2 Limited and Level 1 Non-Pro division with a score of 215. Gary Sutton owns the mare (Topsail Whiz x Tinky Chex Chic x Smart Chic Olena). Allison placed fourth in the Level 2 Non-Pro division at the 2008 NRHA Futurity.

The second section of the first go-round of the Futurity Non-Pro wraps up today, Nov. 28, and the third section takes place Tues., Nov. 29. The Non-Pro finals will be held Fri., Dec. 2.
