The National Reining Horse Association Futurity in Oklahoma City, Okla., continued Nov. 29 with the second go-round, second section of the NRHA Futurity Open. Michael Boyle marked Tuesday’s highest score, a 222.5, aboard Darling 888 Ranch’s Easy Lil Lady (Easy Otie Whiz x Docs Lil Bullet x Lenas Gyrator). The NRHA Professional from Princeton, Ky., now leads the composite standings in the Level 4 Open division with a 444.5.

Moving to second place in the Level 4 Open division and leading the Level 3 Intermediate Open division is Todd Crawford and Cashn Rooster (Gallo Del Cielo x Booming Cash x Boomernic). The pair earned identical scores of 221.5 in each go-round for a composite score of 443 for the horse’s owner, Archie Mangus, Norman, Okla.

Eduardo Salgado and Gunner Boy (Colonels Smoking Gun [Gunner] x Kat Jordan x Nu Chex To Cash) recaptured the lead in the Level 2 Limited Open and Level 1 Open divisions. Salgado rode Jefferson Abbud’s (Sao Paulo, Brazil) Brazilian Quarter Horse stallion to another 220.5 in the second go-round for a composite score of 441.

The third and final section of the Futurity Open second go-round takes place today, Nov. 30, and the finals will be held Sat., Dec. 3.

Nov. 28, Futurity Open Composite Leaders After Second Go-Round/Second Section

Nov. 28, 2011, the National Reining Horse Association Futurity & Adequan® North American Affiliate Championship Show welcomed the second go-round, first section of the $540,000-added NRHA Futurity Open. Guapo Lena (Shiners Lena Doc x Annies Nu Lena x Nu Cash) and Jay McLaughlin came back to the second go-round and posted another solid performance with a 219.  They now lead the composite in both the Level 4 Open and Level 3 Intermediate Open divisions for owner Carol Rose of Gainesville, Texas. Their composite score is 441.5.

NRHA Two Million Dollar Rider Andrea Fappani sits second in the Level 4 Open division on Spook Off Sparks (Smart Spook x Setting Off Sparks x Shining Spark), owned by Arcese Quarter Horses USA, Weatherford, Texas, with a composite score of 441. Fappani previously rode the mare to a win at the Scottsdale Classic Futurity and a third place finish at the NRHA Cowtown Classic Pre Futurity.

NRHA Professional Dean Brown and Conquer The Spin (Conquistador Whiz x Jacspins Darling x Jacspin) rank second in the Level 3 Open division with a composite score of 435.5. They placed in the top 10 at this year’s NRHA Cowtown Classic Pre Futurity in the Level 4 and Level 3 Open divisions. Robert Santagata of Campbell Hall, N.Y., owns the gelding.

Leading the Level 2 Open and Level 1 Open divisions with a composite score of 435 is the team of David Zimmerman and Starlit Tinsel. NRHA Million Dollar Owner Rosanne Sternberg, Aubrey, Texas, owns the mare (Tinsel Nic x Gay Light Star x Grays Starlight).

Loris Epis riding John Fletcher’s Gotta Magnum Dream (Dun Gotta Gun x Magnums Enterprise x Magnum Chic Dream) are second in the Level 2 Open and Level 1 Open divisions. The pair has already won nearly $10,000 in NRHA competition this year. Fletcher hails from Waterford, Ontario, Canada.

The top Open horse-and-rider combinations, based on composite scores from the first and second go-round, will advance to the NRHA Futurity Open Finals on Saturday, Dec. 3, where the winner of the Level 4 Open division will earn $150,000, as well as incredible prizes from NRHA corporate partners and award sponsors. The second section of the second go-round commences today, Nov. 29, and the third and final section takes place Wednesday, Nov. 30.

The National Reining Horse Association’s (NRHA) moved into its third day with the first go, third section of the $540,000-added NRHA Open Futurity at the 2011 NRHA Futurity & Adequan® North American Affiliate Championship Show. The show continues through Dec. 3 at Oklahoma State Fair Park in Oklahoma City. Saturday’s schedule included the first go-round, third section of the Futurity Open.

NRHA Four Million Dollar Rider Shawn Flarida and Smart Merada Rey (Smart Shiner x Meradas Kitty Rey x Freckles Merada) challenged the leaders with a matching score of 224.5. They are now tied for the high score in the $280,000-added Level 4 Open with NRHA Million Dollar Rider Dell Hendricks and Cache Of Jewels. Smart Merada Rey is owned by Gaynia and Augustine Revenberg of Old Castle, Ontario, Canada. Flarida rode the gelding to the Level 4 Open Co-Reserve Championship at the 2011 All American Quarter Horse Congress Futurity.

Cache Of Jewels (Conquistador Whiz x Jewels Lil Sparkle x ARC Sparkles Surprise) is owned by James Crews of Myakka, Fla. Hendricks and the stallion have already accumulated nearly $24,000 together with a level 4 Open Championship at the Southwest Reining Horse Association Futurity and Reserve Championship at the Ariat Tulsa Reining Classic John Deere Reining Futurity.

Carol Rose’s Guapo Lena (Shiners Lena Doc x Annies Nu Lena x Nu Cash) and Jay McLaughlin continue to lead the $145,000-added Level 3 Open.

Gunner Boy (Colonels Smoking Gun [Gunner] x Kat Jordan x Nu Chex To Cash), ridden by Brazilian rider Eduardo Salgado still lead the $75,000-added Level 2 Open and $35,000-added Level 1 divisions with a score of 220.5. Jefferson Abbud (Sao Paulo, Brazil) owns the Brazilian Quarter Horse stallion.

The first go-round of the Open Futurity concludes Sunday. The NRHA Futurity then welcomes its first Non-Pro competitors for the first-go, first section of the $260,000-added NRHA / Cinch Non Pro Futurity.

The last Thursday in November is known to most as Thanksgiving Day or the day before “Black Friday.” But to reiners around the world, it’s known as the first day of the National Reining Horse Association Futurity & Adequan® North American Affiliate Championship Show.

The NRHA kicked-off competition Thursday with the first go, first section of the $540,000-added NRHA Futurity Open featuring the world’s most talented 3-year-old reining horses and Open riders. The show is held at Oklahoma State Fair Park in Oklahoma City now through Dec. 3.

Guapo Lena (Shiners Lena Doc x Annies Nu Lena x Nu Cash) and Jay McLaughlin jumped to the top of the leader board with a score of 222.5. The duo currently leads the $280,000-added Level 4 Open and $145,000-added Level 3 Intermediate Open divisions of the NRHA Futurity.The stallion is owned by Carol Rose, Gainesville, Texas.

NRHA Two Million Dollar Rider Craig Schmersal and Wranglen The Waves (Wrangle Whiz x Tidal Waves Melody x Tidal Wave Jack) are in second place in the Level 4 Open with a score of 220.5. The Wranglen Partnership, Overbrook, Okla,. owns the stallion that placed in the top 10 of the Level 4 Open at the NRHA Cowtown Classic Pre-Futurity with Schmersal aboard.

Garth Brown and Showtimes Packinagun (Mister Nicadual x Showtimes Tinseltown x Great Red Pine) marked a 220 for owner Jeffrey Palmer, Chiloquin, Ore. The duo leads the $75,000-added Level 2 Limited Open and they are the second-high score in the Level 3 Intermediate Open.

In the $35,000-added Level 1 Open, Starlit Tinsel (Tinsel Nic x Gay Light Star x Grays Starlight), owed by Rosanne Sternberg, Aubrey, Texas, and ridden by David Zimmerman, holds the lead with a score of 219.5.

The nearly $2 million show features the Futurity Open finals on Saturday, Dec. 3, when the winning entry is guaranteed a check for $150,000, as well as incredible prizes from NRHA corporate partners and award sponsors.

The NRHA Cinch Futurity Non-Pro offers an additional $260,000 in added money for Non-Pro reiners. The Non-Pro finals will take place on Friday, Dec. 2.

Nearly $100,000 in nominator incentive money also will be distributed to those individuals who originally nominated horses to the NRHA Nomination Program, whether or not they still own the horse.
