Sept. 8, 2011 - According to an article published in the Albuquerque Journal, "The population of free-roaming horses that wander the increasingly dry landscape around Placitas and Algodones (in New Mexico) appears to be growing, and that has horse lovers and public safety officials worried. Sandoval County Sheriff Doug Wood has fielded numerous complaints about horses straying onto public roads in residential areas in search of food and water. He worries that someone could get hurt or killed."
