There’s no doubt about it! Fappani Performance Horses showed up big for the Dec. 3, 2011, National Reining Horse Association Futurity Level 4 Open finals. At 6 p.m., from the very first draw of the 31-horse finals, Fappani blazed into the arena on Lil Joe Cash in the dramatic run-in and stop maneuver of NRHA Pattern No. 10. Lil Joe Cash set the dirt flying and dragged a pair of tracks that put himself and Fappani on the path to a 227.5-scoring run. No other competitor was able to top that score, and Fappani and Russell Giles’ stallion (Nu Chex To Cash x RS Lilly Starlight x Grays Starlight) reigned as this year’s NRHA Futurity Open Champions and received a check for $150,000.

The NRHA Cinch Futurity Non-Pro finals were held on Friday, Dec. 2, 2011, and thanks to the NRHA Foal Nomination Program, reiners went home quite a bit richer than in years past. Veronica St-Onge, Gainesville, Texas, rode Spooks N Sparks (Smart Spook x Whizicle x Topsail Whiz), owned by St-Onge Reining Horses Inc., to the high score of 221 to win the Level 4 and Level 3 Intermediate divisions of the Cinch NRHA Futurity Non-Pro.

Wednesday was a busy day at the National Reining Horse Association Futurity & Adequan® North American Affiliate Championship Show. As competitors battled it out in the final section of the $540,000-added NRHA Futurity Open and the Non-Pro Consolation round to earn a slot in the $260,000-added Cinch/NRHA Futurity Non-Pro finals, reining fans moved one step closer to crowning Futurity Champions at the 25th running of the event in Oklahoma City. (From 1966 to 1985 the NRHA Futurity was held in Columbus, Ohio.)
