Metallic Cat, a stallion owned by Alvin Fults, Amarillo, Texas, and ridden by Beau Galyean, has become the leading horse sired by the cutting industry’s hottest sire, High Brow Cat.
The $26,244 Metallic Cat earned for finishing third in the National Cutting Horse Association Derby Aug. 2 pushed his career total to $580,628, according to unofficial Derby figures provided by the NCHA. Boon San Kitty, the great mare owned by Alice Walton’s Rocking W Ranch, earned $555,504.37.
Metallic Cat, who is out of Chers Shadow by Peptoboonsmal, scored a 222 to capture the 2008 NCHA Futurity and $250,000.
At the NCHA Super Stakes, he marked a sizzling 226 and appeared headed to victory in the second leg of the association’s Triple Crown events, only to have Third Cutting and Boyd Rice earn the title with a 230. Metallic Cat still earned a total of $155,455, including $51,300 for first place in the Super Stallion Incentive Fund.
He marked a 225 for third place in the Derby.
The stallion scored a 228 for first place and a total of $80,463 at the Breeder’s Invitational in May. In his only other appearances, he and Galyean won the Abilene Spectacular Derby ($50,160) with a 223 and were Tunica Futurity Reserve Champions ($18,306) with a 218.
Boon San Kitty, a 2000 mare out of Boon San Sally by Boon Bar, finished first nine times, beginning with the 2003 Pacific Coast CHA Futurity, where she scored a 227 to earn $61,333.
She also captured the NCHA Classic/Challenge in 2005 and 2006 for a total of $100,000. In 2004, she won the Galles Ranches cutting, the Music City Futurity 4-year-old, the South Point Winter Championships, the PCCHA Cutting Stakes and the Great American Champions competition. Boon San Sally also captured the 2005 Western Horseman Cup Finals.
