Lil Bit Reckless & Russ Westfall
Lil Bit Reckless, a 6-year-old mare bred and owned by husband and wife cutters Russ and Janet Westfall, Los Olivos, Calif., won a Classic/Challenge Open title at the Fort Klamath Ranch Festival with Russ Westfall for the second year in a row on Tuesday with a 226 to earn $8,450.
With the victory, Lil Bit Reckless (CD Royal x Trouble Lynn 495 x Smart And Trouble) became the Fort Klamath Ranch Festival’s all-time top-earning horse. The mare, a career winner of $144,385 including her most recent victory, has now earned $33,028 in Fort Klamath, Ore., the past three summers, according to Equi-Stat records.
Lil Bit Reckless and Russ Westfall won the Classic/Challenge Open at the 2009 Fort Klamath event with a 224.5, while the horse and Janet Westfall finished sixth last year in the Non-Pro. In 2008, Lil Bit Reckless finished as a Reserve Champion in both the Derby Open and Derby Non-Pro divisions with each of her co-owners.
Janet Westfall and the mare are also competing in Fort Klamath this week in the Non-Pro Classic/Challenge. Janet and Lil Bit Reckless won a Classic/Challenge Non-Pro title at the El Rancho Futurity last September with a 224.
Until Lil Bit Reckless passed him this week, 1990 stallion Tangys Classy Peppy (Peppy San Badger x Tangy Lena x Doc O’Lena) had earned more money than any other horse at the Fort Klamath event with combined show earnings totaling $26,066. Tangys Classy Peppy earned $20,000 as a 3-year-old. Bobby Ingersoll guided him to the 1993 Ranch Festival Futurity Open Championship with a 219 for original owner Oxbow Ranch.
Lil Bit Reckless did not compete in Fort Klamath as a 3-year-old because she was in training with Russ Westfall for the NCHA Futurity. She debuted in Fort Worth during late fall of 2007 by reaching the Non-Pro semifinals with Janet Westfall.
