Bailey Blaine Reina, Wharton, Texas, and Thomas E Hughes, a 2003 stallion owned by her grandparents, took top honors in Girls Cutting as the Texas High School Rodeo finals concluded June 16 in Abilene, Texas.

Don and Kathy Boone, West Columbia, Texas, are Reina’s grandparents and they own Thomas E Hughes (High Brow Cat x Smart Leatha x Smart Little Lena), a career winner of about $390,000 as a cutter.

Kathy Boone, daughters, Kelly and Jodie, and her granddaughter, Bailey, have now all earned Texas Girls Cutting championship titles. Bailey Reina and the horse picked up the victory with a three-go 653 composite score.

Hunter Hightower, Lipan, Texas, won the Texas High School Boys Cutting title with a three-go 656 that included a final-round best 220 score.

Beka Jo Williamson, Archer City, Texas, No. 6 overall in the final Girls Cutting standings, marked the highest individual score with a 223 to earn the first annual Brody Beaver Award and a trophy belt buckle. The award is named after the late 2009 Boys Cutting National Champion. Beaver died suddenly last year.

Cattalou and Beau Galyean won the 2013 PCCHA Derby Open Championship with a 223 to earn $14,863. Video courtesy of Video West Productions
